Law Office of Adam Oakey

June 2018 – August 2018

Former MMA fighter, convicted felon now Albuquerque Attorney

Adam Oakey is a convicted felon. He is now practicing law and is open about his past.

Oakey said he began getting in trouble with the law when he was just 12 years old.

He said his father died when he was 2 and his mother was an addict.

“There was a lot of abuse, drugs, alcoholism in the house and it was really hard for me,” Oakey said.

He said his aunt got him into martial arts as a way to release anger and to defend himself.

Oakey said he was in and out of the legal trouble up until his 20s. When he was sitting in a jail cell, he decided it was time to turn his life around.

The courts required him to either get a job or go to school.

He enrolled at the University of New Mexico, and graduated from the Anderson School of Management.

He eventually got into law school, graduated and became an attorney.

Oakey said he is tries to redirect some of clients, especially the young ones, from heading down the same troubled path he once did.

“You don’t need to do that. It’s not worth it. You’re going to end up dead or in prison,” he said.
